Since 2015, Alaska has experienced a state-wide recession brought on, primarily, because of job losses in the construction and petroleum industries. In addition to unemployment, the state has also experienced some significant spending cuts. These events, along with others, have combined to create the “perfect storm” that brought about the recession.
One of the topics that we discuss often in our blogs is Alaska’s fishing industry. This industry is one of the oldest established industries in Alaska and continues to be a major source of revenue for the state. Not only is this industry critical to the economic landscape of Alaska, but to the nation as well since fish caught in Alaska makes its way across the entire United States.
We hope you all have enjoyed our tour of Alaska series as much as we have! We have many more cities to visit as we continue this blog series into the new year; however, our final touring destination of 2018 is quite fitting given the time of year we’re celebrating. Our fourth stop along our tour is North Pole, Alaska.
It’s hard to believe that 2018 is almost over but it is! We’re in the final month of 2018 which prompts all of us to not only reflect on the past year but to look ahead to the new one on the horizon. For us, here at Alaska Air Forwarding, a big part of looking ahead is anticipating the fishing season for the coming year.
