Since we spend much of our time traveling to and from Alaska, we thought it would be a great idea to do a blog series about our 49th state. Trends Influencing Freight Transportation
The freight transportation industry is one that is vital to the national and global economy. Consider the fact that every single transaction that we engage in as consumers is tied to the transportation industry. Online orders are shipped to us through a freight carrier, our food is supplied to our supermarkets via freight and even the gasoline we pump into our vehicles is supplied to gas stations through the freight carriers supporting their respective fuel companies.
SOLAS
If you have had any experience with maritime vessels or have ever worked in the freight shipping industry, you are likely familiar with SOLAS. However, even if you have ever taken a cruise, you may have heard of SOLAS. SOLAS stands for Safety of Life at Sea and it is the international maritime treaty that sets minimum safety standards in the construction, equipment and operation of merchant ships.
